Equations, symmetry and problem solving were all on the menu for four lucky Pointers pupils this week. The quartet was invited to take part in the annual National Young Mathematician Award. Ethan from Year 4, Malika from Year 5 and the Year 6 pupils: Stratos and Milly were those selected to represent the school.

The prestigious tournament,  organised by Explore Learning, pits Primary Schools against each other in a series of complex Maths questions. The Pointers team was up against a number of schools in the Greenwich borough with only a few making it through to the second round.

Malika said: I loved being part of the Pointer School team. It was such a great experience. We worked well as a team to work out the questions and I liked that each team member put in their best effort. We all learnt a lot as well. I really hope that we get through to the next round.”

Stratos commented, “It was a challenge, but one I thought we were equipped to face.”

The pupils find out shortly whether they have been selected to go through to the next stage of the competition.
