Pointers 3 vs 1 Blackheath Prep (Saturday squad)

On Saturday 4th October the Pointer School under 11’s played their first friendly match of the season against a squad made up of children from local school Blackheath Prep.

It was an extremely close encounter with Blackheath taking an early lead through a combination of good wing-play and suspect defending from Pointers.

It looked as though it would be a one-sided match, but the Pointers boys responded magnificently. They didn’t let their heads drop and replied with a quick equaliser. Dan raced onto a through ball and managed to round the goalkeeper, squeezing in a shot from an almost impossible angle, 1-1.

The game continued with end to end action, and Pointers took the lead thanks a close range finish from left winger Marco (year 6), 2-1. Pointers defended brilliantly and played quickly on the counter attack.

The third goal was somewhat fortunate, with Marco grabbing his second of the game. From the left wing, Marco attempted to cross to the back post, it looped over everybody and found the top corner! Cue mass celebrations, 3-1.

The second half became very nervous as Blackheath pressed to find a way back into the match. However, Pointers continued to perform heroics when defending thanks to Aryan in goal and defenders Arthur, Jamie and Ewan. Special mention goes to Marko from year 4, after a successful debut in the year 6 squad.

The boys held on to record a very credible 3-1 win.
