The Pointer School competed in the Zonal Qualifying competition for the English Primary Schools Championships at Eltham College on Saturday 2nd February. For the first time we were pleased to be able to enter an U11 and U9 team.

Both teams were successful in qualifying for the next stage which will be either a one-day event in Bristol or a two-day event at Camber Sands in May.

The U-11 Team won every match, but were just half a point short of taking 1st place despite beating the eventual winners 3-2. All coaches agreed this was an incredibly strong zonal with 7 very strong teams capable of taking 1st in many other zonals. Shreyas, Stakhey and Florian managed to win every game which was quite an achievement against very decent opposition. But the whole team scored points and credit to the whole team who can now look forward to the next stage with optimism.

The U-9 Team started slowly with a narrow loss and a draw, but then won every other match, beating the winners (Eltham College A) in the final round. It was a great performance by the whole team lead by Fabian on board 1. All players won the majority of their games. It was a pleasure to see our young and upcoming players competing and achieving here and bodes well for future events.
